GEORGE MEDELLIN, III

PRESIDENT

 

 

George Medellin, III, founded Medellin & Associates in 1994.  His business experience includes successful careers in government, management consulting and employment law prior to launching Medellin & Associates.  Mr. Medellin served in various legal and administrative capacities at the Massachusetts Commission Against Discrimination, United States Department of Commerce, Illinois Department of Human Rights and a Chicago management consulting firm. 

 

He earned a Juris Doctorate Degree from Western New England University, College of Law, Springfield, Massachusetts, and a Bachelor of Arts degree from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale.

 

Mr. Medellin has lectured on diversity/employment issues at Chicago Kent School of Law; Inroads; The Center for Employment Dispute Resolution; National Association of Black Management Consultants; 100 Black Men of Chicago.  He has been sought after for comment, and published articles in, Black Enterprise Magazine, Corporate Legal Times, Crain’s Chicago Business and Minority MBA Magazine.

 

Mr. Medellin leads new business development, manages consulting engagements and provides tactical support.

 

Mr. Medellin has initiated and completed successful Executive Search/Human Resources/Human Capital/Diversity Consulting engagements in the Healthcare; Media; Utility; Financial Services; Telecommunications; Non-Profit arenas.  His client list includes: Harpo Studios, Inc.; The American Bar Association; CNA; We Power; The Huntington Bank; ESPN; The Chicago Childrens’ Museum; US Cellular; PepsiAmericas.

 

Mr. Medellin currently serves on the board of: Supreme Advisory Group Private Equity.

 

He is a Life Member of The Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated and The Black MBA Association.

 

Mr. Medellin also served as the Chief of Staff for the Chief Diversity Officer, Democratic National Committee, Washington, D.C.

ANGELA HILL

VICE PRESIDENT,

MANAGING CONSULTANT

 

Angela is a seasoned Executive Recruiter and Sales & Marketing professional with 20+ years of management experience. Her expansive business experience includes a background in Executive Search, Research, Client Assessment, Business Development, Relationship Management and National Employment Branding for Fortune 500 concerns and Mid-Cap companies.

 

At Medellin & Associates, Angela leads New Business Development, Executive Search Engagements and Key Account Management.

 

Prior to joining Medellin & Associates, Angela crafted marketing and business solutions for Mid-Cap/Small-Cap firms, which resulted in substantially increased sales and revenue.

 

Additionally, Angela served as the National New Business Development Manager for the National Black MBA Association. In this high impact role, she spearheaded a pilot recruitment program, Gold Key Access, to link high potential mid and senior level diverse executives with numerous Fortune 500 companies, across several sectors.  From conception to execution, Angela led this new initiative, which increased annual sales by 157% and placed 20 executives nationally.  

 

As a prelude to Angela’s tremendous triumphs at The Black MBA Association, Angela achieved superior results as a Director, Sales & Marketing in the health/ beauty products and Healthcare industries. She managed multi-million-dollar client accounts, while significantly increasing earnings.

 

Angela attended the University of Illinois and holds several professional management certifications.

 

 

ERIKA WALKER-THOMAS

VICE PRESIDENT,

MANAGING CONSULTANT

 

Erika Walker-Thomas is the Vice President of the Diversity & Inclusion Practice. She holds more than 17 years of substantial experience in Diversity Consulting, Coaching, and Professional Development.

 

As the leader of this practice, Erika has expertise in Client Relationship Management, Coaching, Global Workforce Dynamics, and Global Diversity Solutions. She has also been a member of several global HR teams and has a perspective on integrating diversity and talent systems across all major HR functional areas.

 

 Prior to joining Medellin & Associates, Erika was Vice President, Diversity Solutions, at The Kaleidoscope Group, a Chicago based diversity consulting firm. Erika also founded Changing Mindz, a diversity consulting firm focusing on global diversity and women’s issues.

 

With Hewitt Associates, a leading global human resources consulting firm, Erika held multiple consulting positions. Her work provided a wide range of Human Capital Solutions for Fortune 500 clients, including integrating diversity into businesses, focusing on their workforce and the marketplace.

 

Erika’s extensive experience includes working with C-Suite Executives, Global Line of Business Leaders, HR Managers, External Partners and Women Executives.  Erika has designed global learning strategies and addressed attraction, motivation, and retention issues for general and diverse populations.  Additionally, she coached women to navigate successfully their respective organizations and create the lives they desire.

 

Erika is a regular columnist on diversity and coaching issues for Conocimiento Y Direccion, the leading HR & Management magazine in Latin America.  She also speaks regularly at their human resource forums.  Erika also delivers presentations to the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM), the World Diversity Leadership Summit (WDLS) in Prague, and other related forums.   She holds a leadership role with the Center for Diversity and Research, an organization designed to augment organizations’ internal programs with an evidence-based resource for advancing their Diversity & Inclusion goals.

 

Erika has delivered Diversity Solutions for clients throughout North America, Europe, Latin America, and Asia. Her clients include Senior Executives and a broad array of Fortune 1000 entities.

 

Erika serves on the Board of Directors for Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA), The Academy of Finance at Marshall High School and supports multiple causes for women and children. Erika attended Howard University and Lake Forest Graduate School of Management. 

GREGORY T. HINTON

PRACTICE LEADER

Diversity Consulting & Employment Branding Strategy

Gregory T. Hinton made history when he was appointed as the first Chief Diversity Officer of the Democratic National Committee (DNC), in October 2011. The Democratic National Committee (DNC) is the principal organization governing the United States Democratic Party on a day-to-day basis. The Democratic National Committee provides national leadership for the Democratic Party. It is responsible for promoting the Democratic political platform, as well as coordinating fundraising and election strategy.

In his capacity, Greg advised the Democratic National Committee (DNC), the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC) as well as the Democratic National Convention Committee (DNCC) on Diversity issues related staffing and vending selection. In addition, Greg partnered with the DNC Chairwoman, Congresswoman - Debbie Wasserman Schultz, DNC Executive Director – Patrick Gaspard, along with the DNC Executive Committee to promote Diversity initiatives throughout the Democratic Party. 

Before joining the DNC, Greg was the Senior Director/Chief Diversity Strategist at U.S. Cellular Corporation, where he led similar efforts successfully. He has related experiences at: Abbott Laboratories, Pepsi General Bottlers, Amtrak, CMHC and Advocate Health Systems, over the last thirty (30) plus years.

 

Mr. Hinton is a PhD candidate in Values Driven Leadership at Benedictine University, a graduate of Loyola University-Chicago MSIR program, along with an undergraduate degree from the University of Illinois.

 

In addition, he has served on many Boards including: League of Black Women, Chicago State University Foundation, Hispanic Alliance for Career Enhancement, SHRMs Panel of Experts in Diversity, Staffing.org, EEAC, Athletes Against Drugs, Ability Links, Chicago Urban League - Board of Advisors, Habilitative Systems, Inc., Employment Management Association as well as the Chicago Association of Minority Recruiters.

 

Greg is the proud father of his children: Christopher, Arifa and Gregory. In addition, he is a member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, along with being a life time member of the National Black MBA Association. He’s the recipient of a host of awards and appointments, including receiving the DANDI Diversity Impact Award – 2012, Uptown Professional Top 100 Executives for Change – 2012, National Black Public Relations Society MVP Award – 2012, along with the 2012 AKA Monarch Special Recognition Award; 2013 – Rolling Out Magazine Top Ten Movers in D.C.

TARIA TUCCIO

DIRECTOR,

HUMAN RESOURCES PRACTICE LEADER

 

Taria Tuccio holds 15+ years of experience in Talent Management, Talent Acquisition and Human Resources Administration with Fortune 200 companies. Taria’s expertise includes developing human resources strategies and implementing solutions that increase retention, productivity, and profitability. Taria develops and executes solution focused client presentations, utilizing thought leadership to identify areas of opportunities; driving change and financial impact. Additionally, Taria participates in new business development.

 

Most recently, Taria held the position of Senior Global Human Resources Manager at General Electric Company, providing strategic and operational human resource leadership for global projects, operations and marketing organizations with multiple locations (domestic and global), over 600 employees and approximately $290 million in revenue. Taria coached and counseled managers on employee issues, conflict resolution, compensation, performance management, organization effectiveness, career development, recruitment, training, union avoidance and participated in leadership, operations, and financial review meetings.

 

Prior to General Electric, Taria worked for Motorola Mobility LLC, partnering with global multi-site advanced technology, program management, and business process organizations to integrate human resource initiatives with business strategies and goals. Client employee populations ranged from 200 to 400 employees. Taria was accountable for conflict resolution, coaching and counseling managers on employee issues, compensation, performance management, organization development, participating in business communication meetings and career development. Additionally, she developed and implemented human resource programs.

 

Taria is also currently volunteering with the Taproot Foundation as a Leadership Development & Strategic Human Resources Consultant. Taria partners with nonprofit organizations to provide leadership development and strategic consulting in the areas of human resource capacity build, performance management, board recruitment, advanced volunteer management, core function volunteer recruitment, and strategic staff development.

 

Taria earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Organization Behavior / Business from Northwestern University, a Master's Certificate in Project Management from ESI & The George Washington University and an Organizational Development Certificate from Linkage, Inc.

MICHEAL MORRIS

INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY PRACTICE (ITP)

PRACTICE LEADER

 

Michael joined Medellin & Associates (M&A) in 2018 to lead the new ITP. He leads business development, supervises recruitment, provides strategic direction and tactical support.

 

Michael Morris is a certified senior level SAP Finance (FI) and Controlling (CO) solution consultant, with more than fifteen (15) years of SAP architecture and implementation experience.  He has an extensive background in all aspects of FI/CO module and sub-module design, configuration, implementation, and post-go-live support.  Michael has also led multiple end-to-end full lifecycle projects for both domestically and international organizations. 

 

He has also delivered training to end users and developed role-based security profiles for all versions of SAP from 4.0 to S4/Hana.  Michael has designed multiple reporting packages utilizing BI tools from report painter to BW. 

 

Specialties: FI - GL, AP, AR, New GL, Spl Ledger.  CO - CCA, PCA, PC, PA, PCP, Integration Manager.

 

Prior to joining M&A, Michael served as the CIO / Global Director of IT at   Century Aluminum. He managed all corporate IT functions and global operations.  Michael also lead a Global S4/ HANA implementation. 

 

As a seasoned IT entrepreneur, Michael lead The GCM Group, Inc., for 20+ years. GCM specialized in the integration of business data into financial output.

He spearheaded business development, managed client engagements and supervised a cross-section of IT professionals on projects, within a myriad of sectors, nationally.

 

Michael’s corporate experience included Program Management roles at PepsiCo, Pregis, ICW Group / Axon Global 6, Molson Coors / Globalsource IT, Menasha Advantage / Surety Corp, SPX Corporation and Boston Scientific. In these roles, he led complex international/ domestic projects, interfaced with C-Suite executives and gained rich experience in FI/CO, SAP functionality, FICO and the integration of comprehensive financial functions with various IT platforms.

 

Michael holds Bachelor of Science degrees in Accountancy and Finance from Grambling State University.

TARA RICHARDSON

DIRECTOR,

TEAM LEADER

 

Tara Richardson holds 16+ years of experience in Talent Acquisition, Talent Management, Human Resources, and Operations Administration with top public sector educational organizations.  Tara’s expertise includes recruitment and retention, relationship building, program development, and training. At Medellin & Associates, Tara leads project teams in Recruitment, Staff Augmentation, Talent Management and Human Resources, while participating in new business development efforts.

 

Most recently, Tara held the position of Regional Program Manager at EdisonLearning, providing operational leadership and new business development for afterschool tutoring programs aimed at Chicago Public Schools low-performing schools.  Tara managed the program development of 20+ schools while overseeing all operational needs including staffing, onboarding, training, budget maintenance, material procurement and delivery, attendance maintenance for staff and students, program celebrations, and payroll.  Tara supervised more than 40 staff and provided conflict resolution, performance management, and employee relations support for each building.

 

Prior to EdisonLearning, Tara worked for Chicago Public Schools as the Talent Acquisition Manager providing teacher recruitment services for over 600 public schools.  Tara managed a team of 13 to identify qualified teacher candidates to fill over 1,000 open requisitions per year.  Tara worked with local and national universities to establish a path of entry for all newly graduated teacher candidates to find employment with Chicago Public schools via job fairs, class presentations, student teacher placements, and bus tours.

 

Tara also taught workshop classes sponsored by the National Able Network at Oakton Community College as a part of a return to work project for adults who had been unemployed for more than a year. 

 

Tara earned a Master of Science degree in Human Resources from Loyola University-Chicago and a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration emphasis in Human Resources from Old Dominion University. Tara also holds a PHR certification.

J. VERNON PETERSON

DIRECTOR,

MANAGING CONSULTANT

 

Mr. J. Vernon Peterson holds more than 20+ years of significant diversity, staffing and general human resources experience in Fortune 500, Consulting and Academic settings.  His expertise encompasses developing novel diversity/inclusion strategies through creating the business case for diversity in a myriad of industries.    J. Vernon develops and implements diversity strategies, conducts project management and participates in new business development.

 

Most recently, Mr. Peterson held the position of Director, Workforce Diversity & EEO Planning at Wisconsin Energy Corporation, Milwaukee Wisconsin.  He led the development and implementation of the Diversity, Equal Employment Opportunity and Affirmative Action programs to maximize workplace diversity and ensure compliance with current state and federal legal requirements.  More importantly, J. Vernon developed a new Diversity Council, whose purpose was to ensure that the company focused on the inclusion and full utilization of the talents and skills of all employees and drive the business imperative of diversity.

 

Prior to managing diversity at Wisconsin Energy, Mr. Peterson led the Worldwide Diversity Team for Hewlett Packard Services (HPS), supporting 50,000 employees in the United States, Canada, Latin America, Europe and Asia Pacific in a 16-year career highlighted by developing the “Diversity Accountability Model” utilized throughout the corporation.

 

At HPS, J. Vernon served as Director, Worldwide Diversity, North American Manager, Talent & Diversity, Human Resources Manager, Diversity/Affirmative Action Manager and Education Manager, respectively.  He spearheaded the corporate effort to instill a holistic approach to Diversity, by incorporating its elements within the workplace, marketplace and community.

 

Prior to HPS, Mr. Peterson gained invaluable staffing, employee relations and organization development experience at General Electric and Digital Corporation.

 

Mr. Peterson has lectured at Portugal’s Catholic and New Universities, consulted to the Portuguese Industrial Association and received Hewlett Packard’s STAR Award.

 

Mr. Peterson earned an MBA from the University of Maryland, University College, a Graduate Certificate in Organizational Design from The University of Michigan and bachelor’s Degree from Lincoln University (Pennsylvania).
